Happy New Year's

We hope everybody had a New Year's as exciting as we did. Lindsay's cousin Tara came to town from Ottawa on the 31st. We had lots of fun just hanging out and going to get fountain drinks at QuikTrip. Unfortunately, she left her dog at home in Ottawa so she could not stay too late into the evening. As it got closer to dinner time, we were debating what we should do. We had three options: 1-we would go down to Ottawa for the evening and then come back after midnight; 2 - Tara would stay in KC until 8:00, then go home; 3 - we would go to Ottawa and stay the night. There were pros and cons to each option.

We decided that the best way to choose between the three options would be to draw one out of a hat. We developed our own intricate drawing method. We wrote each of the options on a piece of paper and placed then in three separate Christmas containers (see picture at right). We then put the three pictures in a standard Wal-Mart plastic sack. We each took turns drawing a container to determine which option we would do. Unfortunately, each time we drew we got a different choice, leaving us back where we started. So we resorted to Plan B - assigning a word to each choice and then text messaging the three words to Rachel to choose from. After waiting about five minutes and receiving no response, we had to move to Plan C. Lindsay called her mom and had her choose from the three random words. The final verdict was that Tara would stay until 8:00, then go home to Ottawa. At least we thought...

At 8:00, Tara left as planned. At about 9:00, I was looking for Lindsay's cell phone which she thought was in her purse. It was in her purse, unfortunately, her purse was in the backseat of Tara's car. We called Tara to tell her and to see if we could just come down on Monday and get it. Well, it turns out when Tara got home she felt sad being alone on New Year's eve, and this gave her the perfect excuse to come back to KC. So she loaded up Maestro (her dog) and came back. We then stayed up until about 2:00 playing Monopoly. It was a lot of fun...we always have fun at Monopoly. The popular phrases of the night were, "Enjoy your $6 dollar rent" and "Marvin Garvins." If you're wondering who won, it was Lindsay followed by Tara followed by myself. I still claim they were both cheating the whole time. Below are a few pictures from our monopoly game.
